These images are from April 2020 and were produced during the peak of the first COVID-19 wave in the Intensive Care Units at all 11 hospitals in the city's public health system, NYC Health + Hospitals. No one knew how dangerous the virus was, or even how exactly it was transmitted yet these frontline health care workers stood their ground, believed in their training, and faced down an invisible and deadly disease. They were working 12-16 hour shifts- some for 30-40 days in a row. Many were sleeping in their basements or garages or hotels to protect their families. These collages are a tribute to those who fought to help save us all.
