"YanZhen" – The Many Faces of a Woman YanZhen is a photographic portrait series centered on the artist’s grandmother, named after her given name as both an intimate tribute and a profound inquiry into the layered identities of women. Through the lens, we encounter not just an elderly woman, but a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother—and, more broadly, a quiet yet resilient archetype of women shaped by her time. Living at the intersection of tradition and modernity, YanZhen has shouldered countless roles throughout her life: the backbone of her family, an embodiment of labor, and a witness to history who, despite being swept along by its currents, never lost her voice. This series seeks to dismantle stereotypes surrounding “elderly women,” instead revealing her emotional depth, personal memories, and enduring dignity as an individual. Each photograph is a private conversation—a reclamation of identity. YanZhen not only documents the traces of one grandmother’s life but also invites viewers to reflect: in a world of constant change, how are women’s identities defined, seen, and remembered?
