By taking water and adding vibrations to it, a whole new world is revealed. As Michael Faraday (English chemist and physicist, 1791 – 1867) discovered, when water (or other fluids) is excited through vibrations, “waves” form on the surface and such waves take different shapes, some relatively simple, others more intricate and complex. In this project, I captured a wide range of shapes that formed on the surface of the fluids I experimented with; each unique shape corresponding to different frequencies, liquid densities and depths. The results are mesmerising and prompt questions around whether it may be possible that life itself is shaped by resonant forces of some sort. What gives shape to living organisms? What organises the smallest parts that compose us, into what we are? Could it be a set of universal vibrations that act silently and invisibly?
