On the eve of the start of the San Fermín festivities, AnimaNaturalis and PETA staged an event in Pamplona's Plaza Consistorial, the scene of the traditional chupinazo, in which they rejected bullfighting and bull runs and argued that bullfighting ‘is a sin’. The action consisted of a recreation of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus Christ, surrounded by naked people lying on the ground, with horns on their heads and stained with red liquid resembling blood, symbolising ‘the victims left each year by the bullfights in Pamplona’.
