It was in the early hours of the morning and I had been laying awake for hours. As I have never suffered from insomnia, in fact, I have an amazing ability to fall asleep even when I am standing up, when this happens to me, I enter into a kind of obsessive loop that takes me further and further away from my goal. I spend the first few hours of the night entertained with light activities, but as the night progresses, I enter what I have dubbed the "4am mystique". And it is when I enter this phase that I always, with no exception, begin to research spiritual matters. That night I was reading about symbolism, one of my favourite subjects, and in particular about the representation given to fish in different cultures and religions. It seems that there is quite a lot of unanimity over the centuries about their meaning: well-being, fecundity, protection... Cirlot mentions in his fantastic "Dictionary of Symbols" that they are "psychic beings", "mystical vessels of life", "penetrating movements endowed with ascensional power in the lower, the unconscious". I remember that these readings had a quick sedative effect, I closed the book, turned off the light and visualised a large aquarium full of beautiful goldfish swimming in front of me, and so I fell into a peaceful sleep. When I woke up the next morning I decided to make my own tribute to those mysterious beings and that same day I started working on the trilogy I present below.
