The Stardust Room

Turning away from the common documentation of ruin and abandonment that characterize the fabled Catskill Resort region, “A Piece of Sky” is a series of photographs that builds an atmosphere of life through carefully lit, long exposure photographs. The project is a journey through time–a layered reflection into a colorful world of carefree leisure, exciting social experiences, and vibrant indoor and outdoor hotel atmospheres, ranging from staircases and pools dating back to the 1920’s to nightclubs opened in the 1960s. Merging the stagnant realities of these spaces with my desire to experience their former grand existences, the atmospheres presented are reminiscent of a hopeful past whilst indicative of the present reality.
