Action and Light

This is a study of the possibilities of shooting high performance action sports with studio lights at sunset/night. I was lucky enough to work with some of the best athletes in the world what allowed me to try all my ideas in a variety of sports like bmx, motocross, surfing and skimboarding. It's a challenge to find the good conditions for these type of shots. It's not always that the light or the waves are ideal around sunset/sunrise. And it's also a challenge for the rider to perform in pretty close to darkness. So it's always rewarding when it all works out! Each sport represents a different challenge. In kiteboarding and skimboarding I have to deal with the water and sometimes I need to put my flashes to float on pool floats. Motocross is a challenge because all the jumps are really big and I end up having to light up a pretty big area. In BMX there is dirt everywhere so it's easy to place the lights around the rider, in that case I can be more precise and work on getting a light set up with more light sources.
