There is just no place like it in the world - simple as that. No other city embodies the extreme, perpetual energy of New York City. This is a place where as soon as you enter it, you feel like anything is possible, no matter who you are or where you come from. Its endless movement and momentum grips you, washes over you, and never leaves you - even if you leave it. I left NYC to live abroad for 6 years. Yet as much as I relished my experiences in other regions, I came to to appreciate NYC more than ever before. And now that I've been back for 4 years, even after navigating COVID-19's devastating impact on this city, all of its consequences, and then some, I still struggle to imagine myself living anywhere else long-term. I created this image during one of my visits to NYC while living in Europe, and the inspiration to capture the skyline in this way at dusk came in the moment, without pre-planning. Years later, it remains the one image I've taken in this fair city that comes closest to embodying how I viscerally feel here. It's like a photographic love letter penned by me to NYC, and simultaneously by NYC to me.
