For the second time I was drawn to the solitude of the Rub al Khali, the largest sandy desert on our planet, in the south of Abu Dhabi. From the very first visit, I fell in love with the endless dunes, the waves in the sand and the stark contrasts when the sun was low in the sky. It's not always easy to find the structures in the dunes and the position of the sun makes a huge difference - a motif that you had just passed half an hour before suddenly develops an exciting dynamic...
