Hold On Tight

After moving to Brooklyn in March of 2023, my goal was to explore as much of the borough as possible. This photo was taken during my first Coney Island experience. Having never been, but hearing countless tales over the years, my expectations were high- and met exceedingly after every turn. People of all backgrounds, thrill seekers and sun bathers alike strolled about the island taking in the beauty of the day. After passing through the food vendor lined streets and alleys, I headed towards a roller coaster named the 'Phoenix'. I first stood and watched as the coaster whirled through the air to find a nicely framed portion of the ride. I found a small section of red tracks backed by blue sky and white clouds- perfect. I waited for the next group of riders to strap in and pointed the camera at the seemingly floating red tracks. The coaster rushed by with screams of joy, and with one shot I managed to time the moment just right. Seeing the color contrast, framing and facial expressions while reviewing the photo made me pound the air with my fist. I knew I had a special shot.
