I was just finishing a meal with a friend on Bleeker St. in the Village when squadrons of police in vans rushed past. I followed them to Washington Square Park, where they swooped in on a Black Lives Matter art protest, with easels set up and rap music and dancing. I was knocked to the ground, camera and lenses flying, as they confiscated the DJ's equipment. When I got up, I realized that I was in the decisive moment.
