While float on the Chobe River on a small boat, I noticed this African Darter dive beneath the surface, and tracked the line of bubbles he was leaving on the surface of the water, so I knew exactly where he would break the surface. As his head popped out of the water with a small fish known locally as a Squeaker, impaled on his bill, I shot a short burst, and waited for him to head to the river bank to complete his meal. Fortunately he was in an open area, free of grass, so I had a great unimpeded view of the ensuing action. he wriggled and struggled to remove the fish from his bill, and I patiently waited. Then finally he freed the fish, and expertly flipped it head first towards his open throat. Shooting at a fast frame rate, I managed to capture the critical image of the fish's final second in the air, before he was swallowed.
