Exploring Greenwich was an unexpected twist during my visit to London. The original plan to capture the sunset panorama from a hilltop was thwarted by closed park gates, but sometimes getting lost leads to unexpected discoveries. We stumbled upon a picturesque spot near Greenwich University, capturing the afterglow that exceeded our expectations. Greenwich University, rooted in history as Woolwich Polytechnic since 1890, evolved into Thames Polytechnic before gaining university status in 1992. Nestled on the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the university offers diverse courses, from business to engineering and humanities. While Greenwich is renowned for housing the Prime Meridian, dividing the Earth's hemispheres, it’s more than just a line on a map. The district boasts attractions like the Royal Observatory, an astronomical beacon since the 17th century. Its maritime legacy echoes through the National Maritime Museum, preserving the area's naval history and shipbuilding heritage. Beyond the historical landmarks, Greenwich offers tranquility away from London's urban buzz. Its serene ambiance, lush green spaces, and Thames Path, tracing the riverside with stunning cityscape vistas, create a peaceful retreat for locals and visitors alike. Though often overshadowed by London's vibrant allure, Greenwich’s charm and distinctive character make it a hidden gem worth exploring.
