Dancers on the streets

In 2019 I was the official photographer for "Bangarra Dance Theatre" on their North American tour; travelling to Chicago, Ontario and Toronto. "Bangarra" is one of Australia's leading performing arts companies, sharing their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences that promote awareness and cultural understanding. As well as documenting rehearsals, performances and behind the scenes moments, I embarked on a personal project photographing the dancers on the streets of the cities we visited. By removing the performers from their controlled, interior environment and placing them in the gritty external chaos of city living I wanted to create a unique, original take on the traditional dance portrait.
