In this portrait of Jeremy I respond to historical, costumed representations of 'authentic ' gender and question the role contemporary photographic portraiture plays in defining what is considered 'beautiful ' and 'feminine '; does it capture or construct identity? In the process of transitioning Jeremy celebrates the construction of his re-versioned female self, defying the constriction of the corsetry to assert an entirely individual womanhood. He is challenging easy and traditional classification, in demanding that his heart's desire -to become female-be seen to be as natural as the clouds.
