Territorial dispute

Dominant hippos bulls guard their territory and females jealously, and any other strange bull that comes into the territory to challenge the dominant bull, or shows interest in any of “his” cows, is liable to face very strong opposition, which quickly develops into a bloody attack, and sometime even the fatal wounding of the challenging bull! This fight lasted about fifteen minutes, and the noise was horrific from both bulls! In this image the dominant bull had chased the challenger out of the water, and really meant to do damage. This was just one of numerous large bites during the fight. Fortunately for the challenger, he managed to escape with his life, but had numerous ugly gashes and holes to show for his troubles!
