In Shakespeare's famous play "Hamlet", Hamlet once said to Ophelia, "God has given you a face, and you have made another one for yourself." This is especially true in Peking Opera. I often wonder if when a woman in Peking Opera sits in front of the vanity and sees herself in the mirror. Does she get the most real face given by God, or the face made of rouge powder and mirrors, which is just a purely mirror image?
