In this portrait series, I explore the concept of anthropomorphism by photographing animals as if they were human subjects. Each animal is treated as an individual, with its unique personality and character brought to life through a carefully crafted studio setup. Using professional lighting techniques typically reserved for human portraits, I create a refined atmosphere that highlights the animal’s features, expressions, and individuality. The focus of the project is on animals that are less common, not the typical beautiful pets. Rather than capturing the everyday, I seek out creatures that stand out in their appearance, often overlooked in the world of portraiture. This approach offers a fresh perspective, emphasizing their beauty, strangeness, or elegance, and inviting viewers to reconsider their connection with these extraordinary beings. The use of controlled lighting and detailed composition mimics the formal style of human portraiture, blurring the line between species. By doing so, I aim to challenge the traditional boundaries of portrait photography and explore the emotional depth and personality that animals can convey when photographed in this unique way. Each image invites the viewer to engage with the subject on a deeper level, fostering a sense of empathy and connection. Ultimately, this series not only showcases the individuality of these animals but also reflects on the relationship between humans and the natural world, emphasizing our shared characteristics in unexpected ways. The project is a creative experiment in visual storytelling, where pets are no longer just part of the family — they are brought into the studio, given a voice, and portrayed as dignified beings with their own stories to tell.
