On January 15 or 16, 1362, the waters of the North Sea flooded the island of Strand, on which stood a settlement called Rungholt. It served as a port, inhabited by 3000 inhabitants. For many years it was not clear where in the modern world it is located. In 2023, scientists conducted research and discovered that it was the Wadden Sea, a reservoir between the mainland And the chain of the Frisian Islands. Currently, the Wadden Sea is about 450km long and 10-30km wide. It is a shallow body of water, a significant part of which is made up of watts or dry land, i.e. wide plains exposed during the ebb of the sea.
