This male lion was on the move and keenly observant of his surroundings, nearby lions, and a potential meal. The calving wildebeest migration had principally left the area, but not all predators had moved south, with vulnerable calfs and mothers slowly trailing behind. Lost newborns were utterly defenceless and quickly consumed.
