This project serves as a visual testimony of a segment of Argentine society, with a particular focus on the city of Buenos Aires, highlighting small entrepreneurs during this transition period that the society is going through. In this phase of change, numerous artisans and small business owners – such as hardware store operators, butchers, and carpenters – who have managed to survive thanks to the closure of Argentina’s market to foreign trade, are now contemplating their future in light of a potential opening of the economy to international commerce, with the arrival of giants of economy.Through this project, I have sought to capture trades and professions that, as has already happened in other countries, are at risk of disappearing, turning local craftsmanship into a purely folkloric phenomenon. In many places, the repair of objects has gradually been replaced by the serial consumption of identical goods. Is Argentina destined to follow this path as well? This question lies at the heart of the project, which aims to reflect on the fate of an artisanal economy and its struggle to survive in an increasingly globalized world.
