This photography series focuses on overlooked public spaces within the city. The rise and fall of these spaces reflect the contradictions and challenges commonly found in the process of urbanization. As cities continue to expand outward and upward in the name of “renewal,” older public facilities are rapidly marginalized due to their inability to meet new economic demands. Their decline is not merely a matter of architectural aging, but a consequence of functional shifts and industrial restructuring. This phenomenon is not unique to individual cities—it is a widespread issue in contemporary social development. It reveals how, in the pursuit of modernization and economic growth, urban culture and collective memory are often neglected. How to find a balance between urban development and the preservation of memory remains a pressing question for society to consider and address.
