Musee d’Orsay housed a former Paris railway station Gare d’Orsay which was built in 1900. A steel and glass dome is 40m high, over the concourse with 16 tracks, 140m long. The vaulted ceiling contains more metal than the Eiffel Tower. The museum opened in 1986. Musee d’Orsay is the home of three famous clocks of immense scale, a masterwork of the Belle Epoque form. The main façade clock offers a panorama of Montmartre. There is a twin sister clock. The Main Hall is a backdrop for the Ornate Golden Clock designed by Victor Laloux. A shining example of awe-inspiring craftsmanship.
