"Water, the planet's most precious resource, is tragically undervalued. This image is my contribution to raising awareness about the importance of preserving clean drinking water. The growing trend of water privatization, driven by the greed of powerful financial institutions, threatens public access. Documentaries like Water Barons (by Jerome Fritel) expose these efforts to commodify water as just another market product. My photograph explores the beauty of clean water through the abstract interplay of light and shadow, emphasizing the vital need to keep this resource in public hands. This piece is part of a new series exploring the fusion of light and shadow within aquatic environments. I'm fascinated by how this phenomenon deconstructs the subject, echoing the Russian Formalists' aim to transform everyday scenes into artificial visions. This approach has precedents throughout 20th-century photography, including Vorticism. Vorticist photographers prioritized visual impact over narrative, focusing solely on light and shadow, as seen in Alvin Langdon Coburn's "Vortographs." While I admire this focus on visual form, content is equally important to me. In this series, I aim to use the unique visual language of these water visions to warn against the dangers of water privatization."
