In the quiet fields of Hokkaido in late autumn, I encountered a rare cross fox—a creature of striking beauty and quiet divinity. Among the Ainu people, such a fox was once believed to be the highest-ranked spirit among its kind—a messenger between the human and natural worlds. Bathed in the soft, fading light of October, it stood with a calm yet powerful presence, as if aware of something beyond our understanding. Through this image, I wanted to portray not just the animal itself, but the sacred stillness that surrounded it—the silent connection between life, death, and the land we share. Even for a fleeting moment, nature revealed a voice older and deeper than our own.
