Fruition: The Art of Naked Citrus

Fruition: The Art of Naked Citrus is a captivating collection of thirteen striking images that intertwine the sensual textures of the human body with the vibrant energy of citrus fruit — a playful yet profound dialogue between form, colour, and memory. Drawing inspiration from his early years in art school, where the subjects of nudes and fruit were staples of study, Gilpin revisits these formative exercises with a contemporary twist. “We often drew nudes or fruit,” he recalls. “I never photographed them then — the nudes were simply that, all shapes and sizes — and the fruit, mostly citrus, probably because it lasted longer.” In this series, those two worlds converge. Each image is composed with the precision of a drawing, transforming the act of photographing into an act of observation and contemplation. The result is both humorous and sensual, minimal yet bursting with colour — a bold and refreshing “peel” on the classical nude. The series comprises ten images featuring nudes or partially nude figures in dialogue with fruit, and three still-life studies of fruit alone. Together, they form a vibrant meditation on ripeness, impermanence, and the artist’s own creative evolution.
