very time I return from Taipei to Ruifang, my father is the first to walk into the kitchen. He turns on the gas, heats the oil and starts cooking just for me. I stand by the doorway and watch him, wrapped in window light and rising steam, as if all the flavors of our home are being boiled again. This photograph is the homecoming scene I want to keep: not a famous landscape, but my father at the stove, cooking for his daughter.
