They live in a landfill, eagerly awaiting the arrival of trucks that come at the end of the day to dump garbage from the city, about 30 kilometers away. The area is a barren plain surrounded by mountains and is always covered by a thick blanket of toxic fog that rises from the fires set on the piles of garbage after they have been scavenged for food and clothing. They work in silence; the only sound is the buzzing of the army of flies furiously competing with them for food. The fires expose glass bottles and pieces of iron and aluminum, which the people can sell to recycling companies or exchange for fresh water, the greatest treasure here. Most of the adults and children living here were born on this desolate plain and have no idea that rivers or seas exist. They have never crossed the surrounding mountains; this is their only world. It is also the world of the forgotten because they are unknown or ignored by those who live on the other side of the mountains
