Early in the morning at minus 20 degrees Celsius, I shoot on a small peninsula surrounded by the sea in Hokkaido. I meet them as the colors of the morning glow gradually emerge from the night sky and the sun begins to rise over the eastern horizon. Their breath is white in the morning sunlight, and I feel the beauty and harshness of the natural world at the same time. Facing them, I realize that I am living in a world of silence.
