VARIABLE GEOGRAPHY is a new project started in 2021. Graphy is a suffix from the ancient Greek "graphos" that means writing, engraving and Geo refers to the land, to the territory. Using a selection of photographs that I have captured along the riverbank of the Saint-Lawrence estuary since a decade, I rewrite the space of those pictures in combining them to create new dimensions and a symbolic world. Essentially, it is a work on space, on the physical space of the frame, its fragmentation and its recomposition but it also a work on imaginary spaces, aiming to add a new poetical or symbolic dimension to those images. I grew up in the middle of vast spaces and the quest of those spaces is the landmark of my photographic journey. Paradoxically, it is using close-up photographs of bi-dimensional or in relief subjects into my compositions that I reach to create my own vision of those spaces. Printing those images on matte paper confer them a velvety aspect and an aesthetic very similar to the process of a lithograph.
