Gaza War

On October 7, 2023, fighters from Palestinian resistance factions managed to breach the Israel-Gaza barrier and enter the Gaza region, while also launching rocket attacks towards Israel. In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and detained 300,000 people to search for any Israeli military targets. Israel has conducted multiple wars on the Gaza Strip, including the 2023 conflict, during which it resulted in the deaths of 32,000 Palestinians, including 10,000 children and women, and the destruction of over 60% of buildings within a span of 6 months. In retaliation, Palestinian factions fired hundreds of rockets towards Israeli cities and towns, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. A 2023 report by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor indicated that 9 out of 10 children in Gaza suffer from some form of trauma related to the conflict. The majority of Gaza's population resides in refugee camps established over seven decades ago to accommodate Palestinians displaced during the 1948 war. Furthermore, over a million Palestinians were displaced from the northern Gaza Strip to the southern region during the war following the Israeli army's ground operation. The operation aimed to sever the connection between the north and south and rescue hostages held by Hamas on October 7. Those displaced in the southern Gaza Strip are facing a humanitarian crisis due to limited humanitarian aid, leading to increased famine, the spread of epidemics, and a shortage of medical supplies. The Gazan population continues to rely on UN assistance due to limited economic activity, and the ongoing Israeli blockade, which has been in place for over 19 years, has worsened poverty and weakened infrastructure. Daily power cuts and the majority of tap water being unfit for consumption are among the consequences of the blockade.
