A body stands proudly upright, uncovered and vulnerable, but its face is hidden invisibly under a lampshade. On the lampshade is an American flag, “The land of the Free and Home of the Braves” A symbol of a country that does not see them as they really are. With his shirt open, he wears his identity proudly, but also with fear. Under Trump’s policy, their existence was questioned. Rights were taken away, names ignored, bodies denied. What do you do when you are not allowed to exist as you are? You hide, you conceal your face, you become invisible. But even in this suffocation, strength shines through. The attitude is not submissive, but defiant. “You are not allowed to see me, but I exist.” A body that does not fit into boxes, an identity that will not disappear. Even when the world forces them to hide, there is a silent rebellion in the way he stands there open and exposed: proud, present, real. As a photographer I pay tribute to humanity, no matter how perfect or imperfect they may be seen through the eyes of others...
