I’ve started a series photographing my Lurcher in the Cotswolds with its distinctive honey-coloured stone buildings. During the medieval period, the Cotswolds became prosperous from the wool trade. Money was spent on many of the buildings that still survive today. During the same period, only the nobility were allowed to own purebred sighthounds, such as Greyhounds. The Lurcher was created by crossing a sighthound with a working breed of dog, so that commoners could use them for hunting. While lurchers were generally darker coloured dogs that were better camouflaged, nobles preferred white and spotted dogs who could be seen and recovered more easily if lost while out hunting.
