The Pacu Jawi is bull race held in West Sumatra, Indonesia. This sport is usually held just before saplings are planted in the paddy fields which they fill with water. The bulls/cows are loosely tied together and the jockey stands bare foot on a plough holding on the the tails of the bulls/cows. Even though it is called a race the bulls/cows don't race one another. It's the audience that judge the 60 to 250 meter run based on their performance which is mainly their speed and the ability to run in a straight line. Based on the outcome they may bid to buy the animals above the usual base prices at the auction after. This sport has become a festival of sorts for the villagers and now the government has also got involved and promotes it as a tourist event.
