The setting is the village of Tsurui in the Kushiro Marshlands of Hokkaido. This is the story of a 100-year sanctuary for cranes.Once thought to be extinct, the red-crowned crane was discovered in Kushiro Marsh in 1924.Since then, local people, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment, the Wild Bird Society of Japan, and others have worked hard to protect the cranes, and the cranes have made a miraculous recovery.Today, more than 1,800 cranes live in Hokkaido, and their graceful and beautiful appearance can be seen.I have been photographing red-crowned cranes for more than 10 years since I moved to Kushiro City, Hokkaido to photograph them.
